Fewer inspections, fewer defects

A Mexican housewares importer was paying for the same checks on every order, from every factory, and still finding defects on arrival.

The challenge

The importer bought from nine factories and applied one fixed inspection routine to all of them. Cost kept rising, and the defects that mattered still reached the warehouse because the checks were not tied to where the risk was.

What GIS did

  • GIS assessed each supplier by record, product and order history, and designed a mission plan per supplier.
  • Routine checks for the seven proven suppliers moved to structured self-inspection reported in iOrderSmart.
  • GIS missions were concentrated on the two newest factories and on the first article of each new product.

The result

Inspection spend fell by about a third in the first year, while the data from every supplier became comparable.

Defects were caught during production in the factories that needed attention, instead of at loading or on arrival.

This case is an illustrative example prepared to show how a program works. Real, client-approved cases will replace it.

Tell us what you buy and where. A GIS representative will review one or two current orders with you and propose a first program.
